S. DAVID LYMAN
PRACTICE
David Lyman has practiced residential rent control, landlord and tenant law, and municipal property tax assessment law, and related litigation with John Dickie since December 1999. David and John formed their partnership in November 2003.
RESIDENTIAL TENANCY LAW
David is Vice-President of the Eastern Ontario Landlord Organization and a trusted voice for landlords in Ottawa. Since 1999, David has represented landlords in more than 70 rent review applications, allowing landlords to optimize rents on tens of thousands of rental units. In the Eastern Region, David is the most active lawyer in rent review applications, representing dozens of landlords in applications covering thousands of rental units. David has acted for landlords in all types of matters before the Ontario Rental Housing Tribunal, now known as the Landlord and Tenant Board.

PROPERTY TAX MATTERS
David has worked on property tax matters since 1999, including reviewing assessments, appealing assessments, negotiating with assessors, analyzing tax allocations, and reviewing capping and clawback calculations. In addition to representing clients in the property tax field, David has published articles and presented papers on property taxes and assessment.
COMMERCIAL TENANCY LAW
David acts for landlords, property managers and certain tenants in commercial leasing matters, including lease negotiations, lease interpretation disputes, and tax recovery disputes.
GOVERNMENT RELATIONS
David has worked with John Dickie in representing multi-residential, commercial and non-profit taxpayers in government relations around rent control, landlord and tenant law, property tax exemption claims, the vacancy rebate rules, the relative levels of property taxes and other matters of importance to those who manage, rent or own real property in Ontario and across Canada.

A proud father and husband, David aims to balance his work life with his family life. David attempts to maintain an active lifestyle, participating in a number of individual and team sports. Proud to be involved in community needs, David has been a co-chair of the Legal Division of the UJA since 2004.
